We changed the section on who can see your profile. We also corrected what you can see in the app. We also made clearer who can see which answer. We also changed how many emails the waitlist gets. We also corrected what deleting your account removes. We also count visits to this site, without cookies. We also changed what we say about typed words.

Altr Ego is a social app where your friends answer questions about you, and those answers become a profile of you. That mechanic means we handle personal data a little differently than most apps, so this notice says plainly what we collect, where it goes, and what you can do about it.

the short version

  • If you join the waitlist, we have your email address and which link you came through. Nothing else.
  • If you use the app, we have your email, your display name, and your answers.
  • Your friends' answers about you become your profile. You can read that profile. We never show you, or anyone else, which friend gave which answer.
  • We send your friends' answers to an AI service to write the profile.
  • You can delete your account and your data at any time.
  • Altr Ego is for people 18 and older.

what we collect

If you only join the waitlist: your email address, plus a small tag saying which link brought you here (so we know which posts work). That's it. We email you at most twice: when the app opens on iPhone, and when it opens on Android.

If you create an account: your email address, a display name you choose, and the answers you give when you assess yourself.

If you answer questions about a friend: your multiple-choice answers, and nothing that identifies you. You don't create an account, we don't ask for your name, and we don't ask for your email. Your answers are stored against the invite link you used, not against you.

If you visit this site: we count what happens on the page. A visit, scrolling to the form, starting it, tapping the App Store button, and signing up are each counted with the tag of the link you came through and the time. The counts don't include your IP address, a cookie, or any ID, and they aren't stored with your email.

We don't collect your location, your contacts, or your activity on other sites, and there are no third-party advertising or analytics trackers on Altr Ego.

data about you, from other people

Most apps collect what you tell them about yourself. Altr Ego also collects what your friends say about you.

When you invite up to five friends, each of them answers multiple-choice questions about you. Those answers are pooled and used to generate a profile describing you: traits, a reputation line, a fatal flaw.

  • The profile describes you, but you didn't write it. That's the point of the product, and it's also the reason this section exists.
  • Answers are pooled, never attributed. You see the result, not who said what. We do not show you, or anyone else, which friend chose which answer.
  • Friends answer in multiple choice only. Nothing anyone types about another person ever goes into a profile, by design.
  • A profile is generated once at least three of your five friends have answered. It may be built from three, four, or five people's answers.

where your data goes

We use a small number of outside services to run Altr Ego. Each one only receives what it needs.

Supabase

Stores the waitlist, the site's visit counts, accounts, answers, and generated profiles.

Anthropic (Claude)

Receives the pooled answer patterns to write the profile. It never receives anyone's name. Questions are stored with a placeholder, and your real name is filled in by your own browser when the page renders, so it isn't part of what gets sent. No names, no emails, no account IDs, on either side.

Resend

Sends sign-in and notification emails, and the waitlist's emails.

Vercel

Hosts the website and app.

We do not sell your data. We do not share it with advertisers. We do not use your data or your friends' answers to train AI models.

sharing your profile

Your profile is not public. You can see it, and so can the people you have shared a round with. Nobody else can unless you share it. If you share it, as a link or an image, anyone with that link can see it. Sharing is your decision each time, and a shared profile never names the friends whose answers built it.

age

Altr Ego is for people 18 and older, both for people creating accounts and for people answering questions about a friend. We ask you to confirm your age before you do either. If we learn that someone under 18 has used Altr Ego, we'll delete their data.

your choices

  • See your data. Some of it is in the app, like your profile. For a copy of everything we hold about you, email us and we'll send it within 30 days.
  • Delete your account. You can delete your account at any time, and it takes everything tied to it: your invite rounds and invite links, the answers your friends gave about you, your own self-assessment, the profile and trait scores built from them, our records of how you used the app, any reports connected to your rounds, the feedback you sent from the app, and your spot on the waitlist if you joined it with the same email.
  • One exception, so it doesn't surprise you. If you joined the waitlist with a different email from the one on your account, that email sits on a separate list, and deleting your account doesn't remove it. Email us and we'll delete that too.

If you're in a place with specific data rights, including California and Virginia, you can ask us for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email us and we'll handle it.

changes

If this notice changes in a way that matters, we'll say so on the site rather than quietly updating the date.
